StoryBlocks: A New Online Tool To Build Early Literacy Skills

Dinosaur Rhyme performed by Cliff Davidson

Children’s librarians will be delighted to discover StoryBlocks, an online video collection of one-minute songs and rhymes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. In this excellent new resource, librarians perform songs and rhymes designed to help young children acquire early literacy skills, the building blocks for reading. In addition to the videos, StoryBlocks includes activities and literacy tips to help librarians, parents and early childhood educators discover fun ways to interact with young children and foster healthy brain development.

The goal of StoryBlocks is to build awareness and to encourage parents and early childhood educators to engage in early language and pre-literacy skills with children from birth. The methods used in the videos are based on brain and child development research that show the positive impact that songs, rhymes and stories have on very young children.
